Terms of Service

Effective date: March 15, 2026 | Last updated: March 15, 2026

Welcome to CaToday.news ("the Site," "we," or "us"). This platform is a free, AI-powered news aggregator focused exclusively on California. By visiting or using the Site (the "Service"), you agree to follow these Terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the Service.

1. What the Service Does

We gather news from many publicly available sources, including news websites, press releases, local California outlets, and similar material. Our automated AI tools — including large language models and summarization algorithms — then perform the following tasks:

  • Create brief summaries for major breaking stories,
  • Produce combined articles when several outlets report on the same event,
  • Display headlines with direct source links (nofollow) for less urgent updates, and
  • Never store or republish original images — we use only freely licensed or generic thematic images, such as public domain, Creative Commons Zero, or California-themed graphics.

Every source link is published with rel="nofollow". We do not claim ownership of original news stories, and the original publishers always receive direct credit.

Advertisement (Google AdSense)
The Site displays contextual advertising through Google AdSense. We do not control which ads appear. Google may use cookies for personalized ads — see our Privacy Policy for more information.

2. No Fees, No Paywalls

CaToday.news is completely free. There are no subscription charges, premium plans, or paywalls. We believe California news should be open to everyone. Our only revenue comes from non-intrusive display ads (Google AdSense), never from charging users.

3. Intellectual Property and Fair Use

Any original material we produce — such as AI-generated summaries, multi-source articles, and the arrangement of information — belongs to CaToday.news. However, you are encouraged to share and redistribute this material as long as you credit the original page on CaToday.news with an active hyperlink. You do not need prior permission.

The underlying facts come from third-party sources. Our use of short excerpts, headlines, and linked references qualifies as fair use under U.S. copyright law (17 U.S.C. § 107) for news aggregation, commentary, and public information.

4. Publisher Removal Rights

We respect the rights of publishers and content owners. If you represent a news source and want all of your content permanently removed from the Service, contact us using the email below. After we verify the request, we will:

  • delete every mention of your domain from our database,
  • place your domain on a permanent exclusion list, and
  • prevent your future articles from entering the system.

Email [email protected] from an official publication address to make a removal request. We will respond within 5 business days.

⚖️ Source Removal Guarantee
No questions asked. If you do not want your content to appear on CaToday.news, we will delete all traces and permanently blacklist your domain. Content aggregation is automated, but removal requests are handled manually with priority.

5. AI-Generated Content Disclaimer

All summaries, digests, and multi-source articles are produced by artificial intelligence. Although we strive for accuracy, AI systems can occasionally create incomplete, outdated, or mildly incorrect text. We recommend checking the original source links before relying on important information. CaToday.news is not liable for decisions made based on AI-generated summaries.

6. Analytics and Tracking

We use Google Analytics 4 and Google Tag Manager to learn how visitors use the Site — for example, which topics are most popular, how long sessions last, and where traffic comes from. This helps us improve the Service. We do not collect personally identifiable information this way. Google's own privacy policy governs analytics data.

7. Third-Party Links and Nofollow

All external links to original news sources include rel="nofollow", which tells search engines not to pass PageRank. This is standard for news aggregators. We are not responsible for the content, accuracy, or privacy practices of third-party websites. Always check the original source for updates or corrections.

8. Advertising

CaToday.news participates in Google AdSense. Ads are served automatically based on page content and user behavior. We do not endorse any advertised product or service. Google uses cookies to show interest-based ads; you can opt out through Google Ad Settings. We are not liable for any transactions between users and advertisers.

9. Liability Limits

To the fullest extent allowed by law, CaToday.news and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of profits or data, that result from using the Service. Our total liability will not exceed $100. You use the Service at your own risk.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update or modify these Terms at any time. If a change is significant, we will post a notice on the homepage for at least 14 days. Continuing to use the Site after changes take effect means you accept the revised Terms.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any disputes must be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Sacramento County, California.
