Privacy Policy

This document explains what happens with information when you visit CaToday.news ("the Site," "we," or "us"), which operates at catoday.news. We care about your privacy and aim to follow relevant rules, including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the principles of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) where they apply.

1. What We Collect

You do not need to register, log in, or give us an email address to use this Site. The only data we gather is collected automatically through ordinary web technology:

  • Server records: standard IP addresses, request times, and browser identifiers used for security and performance monitoring. These are kept for 30 days.

We never ask for or store your name, email address, phone number, or precise location.

2. How That Information Is Used

  • To run and improve the aggregation service, for example by seeing which topics and sources are most useful.
  • To show personalized or contextual advertising through Google AdSense.
  • To find and fix technical problems and to prevent abuse or unauthorized scraping.
  • To meet legal obligations or handle source removal requests.

3. Cookies and Similar Tools

Cookies are small text files saved on your device. We use them in the following ways:

  • Google Analytics cookies: named _ga, _gid, and _gat. They help distinguish one visitor from another and limit request volume. By default they last up to 2 years, though this can be changed.

  • Essential cookies: these do not hold personal data and only support basic site functions.

5. Advertising and Google AdSense

7. Publisher Removal Requests

If you represent a news source and want your entire domain removed from our aggregation, we will delete all references to your content. We only keep your contact email long enough to verify the request. See our Terms of Service for removal instructions.

8. How Long Data Is Kept

Server logs are stored for 30 days. Google Analytics data is kept for 14 months in aggregated form. AdSense cookies are controlled by Google. We do not permanently store user data.

9. Your Privacy Rights

Because we do not collect directly identifiable personal details such as names, emails, or accounts, many access, deletion, and portability rights may not apply. However, if you believe we hold personal information about you — for example, because you emailed us — you may ask for:

  • Access: a copy of whatever information we have about you;
  • Deletion: removal of that information;
  • Opt-out of sale: we do not sell data, but you can turn off personalized ads through Google Ad Settings.

10. Children Under 13

This Site is not designed for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal data to us, please contact us immediately so we can delete it.

11. External News Links

Our pages include links to outside news websites. We are not responsible for how those third-party sites handle your privacy or for their content. Always read the privacy policies of the original sources you visit.

12. Policy Updates

We may revise this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top shows the most recent changes. Continuing to use CaToday.news after an update means you accept the new version. If a change is material, we will post a notice on the homepage for 14 days.
