Full Containment Reached for Dehesa 7 Fire in California

Firefighters have fully contained the Dehesa 7 Fire, which burned 93 acres in a rural area east of El Cajon. The blaze erupted shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday off the 6100 block of Dehesa Road, west of Tavern Road and near the Sycuan Reservation.

Rapid Response Prevents Major Damage

Crews managed the fire aggressively from the start. By the afternoon of August 20, forward progress was stopped after the fire had spread uphill toward Alpine Heights. Thanks to swift action, the rate of spread dropped from dangerous to slow. No structural damage or injuries were reported during the incident.

Evacuations and Road Closures

The threat to nearby structures prompted immediate evacuation orders and warnings. A temporary evacuation shelter was established at the East Side Lot of Viejas Casino in Alpine. Additionally, the California Highway Patrol closed Dehesa Road from Willson Road to Harbison Canyon Road. All closures were lifted by approximately 6 p.m. on Wednesday as conditions improved.

Smoke Advisory and Current Status

Smoke from the blaze triggered an active air quality alert for surrounding communities, including Alpine, Harbison Canyon, Lakeside, Santee, and El Cajon. Authorities advise residents to keep windows closed and limit outdoor activities until the smoke clears. Containment reached 100% by Friday, marking a successful suppression effort in East County.
